Although the Scots or Scotch Grey has been bred in Scotland for over two hundred years it has in recent times become rare almost to the point of extinction. As one would expect of a northern bred bird they are extremely hardy and are well able to cope with extremes of cold and damp and of course are also good foragers. The hens lay an average of 150 (we cannnot confirm this figure) large tinted/cream coloured eggs each year, but can definitely say the eggs are of an excellent eating quality having a good and rich tasting yolk.
Both the males and females should have a straight single red comb and pink-white legs and feet spotted with black although white legs without the black markings seems to be acceptable. The plumage is steel-grey in colour with fine black barring and the birds have a general neat and tidy appearanace.
